Welcome to our beginner Bharat Natyam dance class!

Bharat Natyam is a classical Indian dance form that combines intricate footwork, graceful hand gestures, expressive facial expressions, and rhythmic body movements. This class is designed for those who are new to Bharat Natyam and want to explore the rich cultural and artistic heritage of this dance style.

Dancers will begin to learn fundamental adavus (steps) and mudras (hand gestures) which form the building blocks of Bharat Natyam. Dancers will start by practicing simple combinations to get comfortable with the movements and then move on to creating more complex expressive sequences.

*2024 Moksha Arts T-Shirt Included in Fee

*Fall semester will end with a year-end dancer-only showcase on Thursday, December 14th @ 5:30pm. Please note this is a tentative date & time based on theater availability. Final details will be released in November. 

*All dancers participating in the showcase will need to attend the mandatory rehearsal on Sunday, December 10th @Playwrights Studio.  

*Students dance barefoot in studio. Upon arrival, students will remove socks and shoes in studio. 

*Students should wear comfortable clothing such as Moksha Arts t-shirt and leggings/sweatpants. No dresses or skirts.

*Hair must be pulled back/tied up.

*Please send dancer with a water bottle to class. 

*Make-up class is not provided for missed classes by student. Make-up is only provided should Moksha Arts cancel a class due to teacher emergency.
